The weather in Iceland is unpredictable all year around so you must always be prepared for swift changes - sometimes often within a day. Remember to monitor the weather forecast and road conditions closely. Do you need ideas for packing? The trick is layering! Here’s a list of items you should bring.
What to expect
In February, daylight increases rapidly. During midwinter, all weathers can be expected. Drivers also need to keep in mind that the sun is low in the sky so driving conditions can be challenging and change swiftly. Warm and waterproof outerwear is essential. Austurland is home to reindeer and drivers should be on the lookout for them as they often keep to the lowlands during winter. Northern lights often appear at night.
