Eyvindará river
One of the natural gems of the town of Egilsstaðir is the river Eyvindará.
A farm bearing the same name once stood on its banks, with roots believed to date back to before the year 1000. According to local tradition, the burial mound of the saga hero Helgi Droplaugarson can still be found in the area, along with ruins that are thought to be the remains of his historic farmstead.
Today, the Eyvindará area is a beloved place for outdoor recreation. Surrounded by beautiful nature and located next to Selskógur, it is especially popular among local youth who enjoy spending time outdoors, walking and exploring.
