Gilsá falls into the Lagarfljót, not far within Hallormsstaðarskógur. The Forest Service allows angling in the estuary free of charge.

Jökulsá in Fljótsdalur is clear for a large part of the year after the power plant at Kárahnjúkar. It contains local char. Fishing licenses are sold at Óbyggðasetur and you can also rent rods there.
