Jurtadís

The woman behind Jurtadís skin care products is Sabina Helvida. Sabina was born and raised in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but moved to Iceland in 2005, then a single mother with two daughters, four and eight years old.

Sabina has been interested in herbs and their unique features since childhood. Sabina's parents worked hard to build a home for the family, and then Sabina was lucky enough to stay with her grandmother during the days when the parents' schedules were busy. The environment where Sabina grew up, was very rich of all kinds of herbs and early on her parents and her grandmother began to tell her about the power of certain herbs and teach her how to use them. The first herb that Sabina learned to identify was chamomile herb, which was widely used in Sabina's childhood home, e.g. in tea, to wash the face, put over swollen eyes and most importantly, to make an extremely healing herbal oil. Ever since, the chamomile herb has been a magic herb in Sabina's heart.

Sabina's grandmother was a unique woman and when Sabina was a little girl, she thought that her grandmother had a magical power and that she could use herbs from the nature to solve all problems like she did when Sabina sprained her knee after a fall, then her grandmother picked up a stone, stomped with it yarrow leaves and put directly on the wound. Then the bleeding immediately stopped, and the wound began to heal.

The white lily is Sabina's favourite flower, and the white lily is the signature brand of Jurtadís Sabina skin care products. The lily has a wonderful aroma and very high potency, and the lily also carries with it precious childhood memories when Sabina and her mother gathered flowers and herbs in order to make oils. Sabina's mother always had oils from lilies, which was used when skin problems such as burns, wounds or dry spots needed to be treated. The white lily is therefore symbolic in Sabina's mind and heart, as its white rounded leaves and heady stem refer to her mother and her homeland Bosnia and Herzegovina, as the white lily adorns the country's coat of arms.

Sabina is also very fond of morning glory/calendula, which has healing, soothing and anti-inflammatory features. Morning glory/Calendula can be found in many of Sabina's products.

In 2011, Sabina's older daughter was diagnosed with cancer, and she subsequently decided to create cosmetics for her that were completely natural and free of artificial substances. At the same time, Sabina was struggling with all kinds of allergies due to the chemicals she used in her work as a hairdresser. Ever since, Sabina has developed a whole range of cosmetics for those who want completely natural, pure and good products. In 2023, Sabina opened a studio and shop in Fáskrúðsfjörður, where she produces all her products herself. Herb picking
All the herbs that Sabina uses in her products are hand-picked at the time of the year when the herbs are most active, far from pollution and urban areas. The products are then made from these herbs, equally picked in Iceland and Bosnia. Sabina specifically selects herbs known for their healing powers. The uniqueness of the products at Jurtadís Sabina skin care products lies primarily in the fusion and history of medicinal plants in these two countries that Sabina calls "home".

The healing effects of the herbs are truly gifts of nature and it is important to pay close attention to what is put on the skin, no less than what is consumed. The skin is one of the largest organs of the body, so it is important to offer it only the best. Sabina only chooses organic and natural ingredients that are approved by ECO (Ecological Products Certification) and COSMOS (Organic and Natural Cosmetics).

Ingredients
The products produced by Sabina contain only natural and organic ingredients, e.g. Shea butter, carrier oils, cocoa butter, etc. Only organically certified essential oils and wild herbs from Iceland and Bosnia are used, which Sabina harvests with her own hands.

Packaging
The soap packaging is made from paper, oils and ointments are in glass bottles and glass jars that can be recycled. The bottles and jars are made of Amber glass, which protects the contents from the harmful effects of light.
