Eiðar - Hostel & Apartments Eiðar - Hostel & Apartments is a newly renovated and conveniently located accommodation in the historic village of Eiðar, offering an ideal starting point for exploring the natural beauty and culture of Northeast Iceland. The hostel is situated only 13 km from Egilsstaðir. The hostel offers 26 newly renovated rooms with shared bathroom facilities and a fully equipped communal kitchen. Access to the building is very easy, with plenty of parking available. Each room is equipped with a wash basin, a flat-screen TV, and high-speed internet. Check-in and check-out are contactless, and guests receive a code to access their rooms. Eiðar - A historic place The story of Eiðar goes back a long way, with the earliest known mention of Eiðar in the saga of Droplaugarson dating back to around the year 1000. However, it was on June 20th 1881, that it was decided to establish an agricultural school in Eastern Iceland for 24 students. A suitable land was found for the school, and the decision was made to invest in Eiðar. The Eiðar church was included with the land, and in 1886 it was decided to rebuild the church and restore it to its former glory. Throughout the 20th century, the Eiðar church was renovated and still stands today next to Eiðar - Hostel & Apartments. In 1917, it was decided that Eiðar School would become a public school for Eastern Iceland and would be the first of its kind in Iceland, i.e. the first public school established by law, owned and operated by the government. The first school session at Eiðar School took place on October 20th, 1919, and it operated until 1995. The Egilsstaðir College took over the school's operations in 1995 for three years until the school was finally closed down in Eiðar. For a long time, Eiðar was a small but lively town, with a diverse social life, sports, and a vibrant music scene. Eiðar School played a significant and prominent role in the cultural history of Eastern Iceland, spanning over a century, or until 1998, when the school finally closed its doors.

Cozy accommodation located in the countryside 18 km from the village Egilsstaðir on road 931. Peaceful and beautiful landscape, nice hiking trails down to the lake or up to the hills, a good place to see the northern lights in wintertime. Here are 2 cottages 24 square meters with a bed up to 4 people. It includes WC and sink but showers are in the service house a few meters away as well as the kitchen/sitting area and a room with a pool table and dart. Besides the service house is a hot tub and sauna for our guests. We have 3 rooms in an apartment with 2 shared bathrooms and a kitchen. The travel service at Stóra-Sandfell is located 17 km. south of Egilsstaðir, by highway 95. When driving over the road called Öxi (which is the shortest route) or Breiðdalsheiði, the roads lie between Höfn and Egilsstaðir. At our facilities we offer many different types of accomodations, cottages, rooms or at our campsite. We also offer horseriding tours through Sandfell‘s forest and nearby. Many lovely hiking trails are in the area. Our accomodations are close to all of the major tourist-attractions in the Eastern Fjords. The travel service at Stóra-Sandfell has been run by the same family for 30 years and combines experience with eastern hospitality. We put emphasis on having a good and personal contact with our all guests and want to make sure they will be able to enjoy themselves in a beautiful and relaxing enviroment, surrounded by Icelandic nature. We do offer 10 cottages, of different types, but all are build for 2-4 persons. All of them do have a private kitchenette and access to a gas grill. Six of the cottages have private bathrooms but the other four share a bathhouse together. The 3 rooms each have a private enterence and a small private bathroom. All rooms share a kitchen and all have access to a gas grill. The campsite is surounded by the old birch forest and is ideal for families or induviduals with tents or campers. On the site there are dining benches, making it comfortable to eat outside in the nature. A small stream goes through the campsite and is perfect for the younger members of the family to make a splash in. In the restrooms we have toilets, showers and outdoor sinks with cold and hot water. All of the horseriding tours are monitored by a guide. We always try to make sure we find a horse that suits each and every rider well. Before each trip we go over all safety rules and do some practice rounds inside a fence. There is no fixed time for the riding tours, so all tours are planned individually. The minimum number of riders is 2 for each trip and the maximum is 10 riders. Finnsstaðir is a family-run business located about four minutes away from the town Egilsstaðir.  Finnsstaðir offers a few things, open all year round. Guesthouse to rent, horse rental, and the horse stable is always open between 10:00 – 17:00 for a short guided tour through the stable to see the horses, take pictures and meet the locals, but we recommend booking the tour with a bit of notice. From 15. may until 15. September, the petting zoo is open.  Finnsstaðir horse rental offers horses with great temperament and clean beated tölt. The tölt is a natural, fluid gait of the Icelandic horse. Its extraordinarily smooth four-beat gait, which allows the rider an almost bounce-free ride. In Finnsstaðir, you ride out in a small private group with a local guide. Most of the riding tours are about one hour, and the owner‘s goal is to keep everyone safe, give all the guests a good experience and memories to keep as long as you live. Longer trips with experienced riders could be available, but just contact Finnsstaðir and ask for availability. On the farm is a big house to rent with three bedrooms and beds for six people. There are two bathrooms and a hot tub on the platform with a great view. The house is spacious and equipped with all standard modern comfort. Washing machine and dryer, the wifi in the house is very strong, and there is a kitchen to cook in. Finnsstaðir petting zoo is open from 10:00-17:00 every day from 15. may until 15.September. All year round, there are chickens and ducks on the farm and, of course, horses, but during the summertime, it is possible to visit and get to know lambs, calves, pigs, ducklings, rabbits, and guinea pigs.  The animals at Finnsstaðir love people, especially children from all parts of the world.

Laugarfell is located in the eastern part of the Icelandic Highlands, a bit north from Mount Snæfell. There are only two km.from the road that leads to Kárahnjúkar to Laugarfell and it is the only part of the road that is not paved. In the summer there is good access to Laugarfell in all kinds of vehicles. Laugarfell offers accommodation for 28 people. Two natural pools are located in Laugarfell and according to old folk tales the water is known for its healing powers. There are many interesting tracking paths around Laugarfell and a number of beautiful waterfalls. Additionally, one can expect to see reindeer wandering around the area of Laugarfell. Laugarfell is open from the 1st of June to 30 of September.We open by agreement during the winter time.

The five Skipalækur chalets, situated on the banks of lake Lögurinn, offer an exceptional view. Each chalet comes with furniture, bathroom, and shower, a small kitchen w. stove and a refrigerator. TV, radio and a grill come with every chalet. Three of the chalets can accommodate four guests while two are tailored to the needs of two persons. Each hut has space for two extra persons. Bed linens are available upon request. Cleaning is not included.

We offer accommodation in the heart of our Móðir Jörð organic farm in Vallanes.  Flat or cottage accommodate 2-4 people with a double bed, kitchenette and private bathrooms with a shower.  The private and calm atmosphere in a beautiful environment. We offer local breakfast from the farm in a newly built café the Aspen House made entirely with wood from the farm.  Shop and restaurant with vegetarian cuisine, lunch and other meals are open from 9-18 daily in the summertime.
